John Allen Fleming, born November 20, 1931, at Emporia, Kansas, was the youngest son of Archie Dean and Otha Mae (Pitts) Fleming. He passed away with his surrounded by his family on December 29, 2017. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Louisburg First Baptist Church 406 S. Vine St. Louisburg, KS, Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the church. Private Burial will be in the Louisburg Cemetery. He grew up on the Browning oil field west of Madison, Kansas. He graduated from Madison High School in 1949. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. Manhattan, Kansas in 1954. He served in the United States Army from June 1954, to June 1956. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, and in El Paso, Texas. His first job was with the AMOCO refinery located in Sugar Creek, Missouri, for two years. While working for AMOCO, John met Helen Dee Hackett, who was working as a school teacher in Independence, Missouri. They were married on June 16, 1957. He then spent the next six years working for Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company. He then went to work for General Services Administration, where he worked for next 30 years until he retired. During his time at GSA, he was involved in the design and construction of mechanical systems for buildings owned and leased by the Government for Federal agencies. John and his family moved to Louisburg, Kansas, in 1968. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Louisburg, Kansas, since that time. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. His greatest pleasure in this life has been his family. John was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Helen, who passed away January 2, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Fleming of Independence, Missouri, and his sister, Doris Horst, Yates Center, Kansas. John is survived by his second wife, Mary Anderson Fleming, and his daughter, Mary Ellen Schaumburg, and her husband, David Schaumburg, their children (his grandchildren) Kris and Jill, and their children (his great-grandchildren), Kristian, Lily, Morgan, and Amy. His other survivors include his twin sons, Bill and Bob, and their families. Bill’s family includes wife Karla and children Kaylen, Megan, and Lauren. Bob’s family includes wife Diane and daughters Kara, Jenna, and Chelsea. John is also survived by his step children, Kathy Calumpong, and her husband Chris, and their children Christopher and Patrick, Melinda Fitzcharles, and her husband Eric, and their children Evan, Adam and Ethan; and Marlo Anderson, and her children Carson, Natalie, and Gus; and great-grandchild Rowan, and Ryan Anderson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Baptist Church, Louisburg, Kansas, or Parkinson’s Foundation for the Heartland.
