John A. Michaels Sr.

John A. Michaels, Sr., age 72, passed away October 3, 2013 at St Luke's South Medical Center. He lived in Spring Hill, Kansas. John was born May 27, 1941 to Glenn and Margaret (Dickerson) Michaels in Granite City, Illinois. He graduated from Granite City Sr. High School in 1959, where he served as Student Body President and participated in sports. He met the love of his life, wife Nancy E. (Green) Michaels while attending Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri. John and Nancy were married August 19, 1961 in Quincy, Illinois. He graduated in 1964 with a B.A. from Park College in Parkville, Missouri. He also excelled in basketball at the collegiate level. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant in the Military Police. He was honorably discharged. John worked in business for many years as Vice President of Collections at Tele-Check in Overland Park, Kansas. He also later ran his own collection agency. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Michaels. He is survived by his wife Nancy, two sons and 4 grandchildren. Son John Michaels, Jr. his wife Jamie (Craft) Michaels and grandchildren Kylie and Kendall of Olathe, Kansas. Son Robert Michaels, his wife Deborah (Cole) Michaels and grandchildren Carly and Cole of Eureka, Missouri. A luncheon at the church will follow the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Anglican Church in Prairie Village, Kansas or Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola, Kansas.
