Joel Leon Wight

Joel Leon Wight, 67, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Richmond Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Family will meet with friends on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas.

Joel was born on Tuesday, June 28, 1955, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Gerald “Bud” and Vergie (Ashburn) Wight.

He grew up in Garnett where he made his home. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Lutz in 1971 and together they had two children: Stephanie and Jason. In 1983, Joel married Joy Buckley and together they welcomed three children into the world: Jill, Josh, and Grace. Both marriages later ended in divorce.

Joel worked as a diesel mechanic for most of his life and enjoyed cars. He had a knack for collecting antiques. He also enjoyed bourbon whiskey and listening to music.

Joel was preceded in death by his father and beloved son, Jason.

Survivors include his mother; one brother, Gerry (Nancy) Wight; his son, Josh (Nicole) Wight; daughters, Stephanie (Casey) Wight, Jill (Chris) Hermreck, and Grace (Michael) Wight; daughter-in-law, Nicole (Thompson) Wight, along with 12 grandchildren.
