Joanne Barclay Burns

Joanne Barclay Burns was born on Thursday, February 19, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of John B. and Margaret D. (McAuliffe) Colbath. She also lived in Denver, Colorado, moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 1998, where she made her home until her death on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the age of sixty-seven years. Joanne was retired from a dedicated nursing career. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa and volunteer for Franklin County Cancer Foundation. On Friday, June 27, 1974, Joanne was united in marriage with Lyle G. Burns in Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her husband, Lyle, of their home; daughter, Leslie Jones and her husband, Glenn, of Westminster, Colorado; three stepdaughters, Connie Crumbaker and her husband, Gary, of Arvada, Colorado, Bonnie Burns of Ottawa, Kansas, Jackie Vowles and her husband, Larry, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Anita Giunchetto. Joanne’s greatest comfort and delight was found in her family, home, and friends, traveling, and going to the theater. She would like to thank everyone who gave comfort and prayers during her journey with cancer. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2009. IN STATE: Cremation is planned. INURNMENT: A private family inurnment will be at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. She would like to thank everyone who gave comfort and prayers during her journey with cancer.
