Joan L. Geer

Joan L. Geer, age 82, of Overbrook formerly of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 5, 2020, at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. The family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Joan was born February 16, 1938 in Harris, Kansas, the daughter of Louis Ellsworth and Frances Louise (Tinsley) Ecord. Joan was a resident of Ottawa from 1960 to 2002 moving to Garnett until 2016 when she moved to Overbrook. She attended Garnett High School later earning her G.E.D. Joan was united in marriage to Donald R. Geer March 27, 1958. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2000. Survivors include three children, Betty Franklin of Ottawa, Vicki Flores (Karen) Clemmons of Kansas City, Missouri and Edner “Ed” Geer of Ottawa; two brothers, Richard (Linda) Ecord of Pomona; Ronald (Vicky) Ecord of Pueblo Mesa, Colorado; three sisters, Lois Ecord of Topeka, Ruth Trendel of Pomona and Patti (Ron) Fine of Pomona; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Joan was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, John Madison and Richard Geer; daughter Myra Geer; sisters, Eva Stone, Jessie Lickteig and Jeanie Rossman. She worked at Hallmark Cards, Lawrence Kansas for over 40 years, retiring in 2000. Joan was a member of several quilting clubs and Meals on Wheels in Garnett. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics and family gatherings. The family suggests memorial contributions to Brookside Retirement Community c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
