Jimmie E. Hastings, age 81, of Desert Hot Springs, California, formerly of Ottawa, passed away January 16, 2016. Private family graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy honor guard. Jimmie was born January 21, 1934, in Ottawa, the son of Roy Samuel and Ethel Lorraine (Layden) Hastings. He lived in Ottawa and Eureka, Kansas, before moving to California. Jimmie served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 on the USS Endicott during the Korean War. He was honored with 4 national medals. He was employed for Gibson in Ottawa and Pamida Stores in Eureka. In California, he worked for Park West Retirement Village until 2011. Jimmie was united in marriage with Betty Gibbons July 5, 1956, in Ottawa. They later divorced. He married Nancy Baker June 16, 1981, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two children, Cheryl Dryden and husband John of Ottawa, and Sam Hastings and wife Becky also of Ottawa; two step-children, Kenneth Baker and friend Jennifer of Lake Tapps, Washington, and Gwen Wilson and husband Bill of Yucca Valley, California; brother, Tom Hastings and wife Fran of Ottawa; two sisters, Donna Grady of Kansas City, Missouri, and Marsha Hedges and husband Martin of Blue Springs, Missouri; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5901, P.O. Box 683, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
