Jimmie D. Thomas, 77, of Quenemo, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2019 at Peoria Cemetery with military honors by Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard. Jimmie was born August 10, 1942, in Parsons, Kansas, the son of Herbert O. and Frances N. (Whirley) Thomas. He lived in various locations throughout the United States including Pomona, Kansas for several years. In the mid-1990s, Jimmie moved to Quenemo, Kansas where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1959. Jimmie served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962 and the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967 serving in Vietnam. On June 12, 1978 Jimmie was united in marriage to Etta Beard in Louisiana. She preceded him in death on February 13, 1994. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Thomas and Dwight Detwiler; and sister, Thelma Shaw. Survivors include his sister, Sheri Oakley of Marathon, Florida; brother, Robert Thomas and wife Cleona of Wichita, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews including Diana Detwiler and husband Sam of Quenemo and Tammy West and husband Jay of Fort Worth, Texas. Jimmie was a lifelong electrician. He was employed with the Walmart Distribution Center in Ottawa from 1996 to 2012. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching westerns and James Bond movies and was a football fan.
