Robert James “Jim” Hasty, age 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in Kansas City Kansas. He was born on Saturday, January 8, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Robert and Helen (Fisher) Hasty. Jim has lived in Ottawa since 1978 moving from Lakewood, Colorado. He had previously lived in Eaton, Colorado from 1962 to 1970; Greeley, Colorado from 1956 to 1962; and Denver, Colorado from 1938 to 1956. Jim graduated from North High School in Denver with the class of 1956 and University of Northern Colorado in 1961. In 1958 he and 31 other members of ChoralAires joined a USO tour lasting over 30 days entertaining servicemen in Japan and Korea. In 1986, Jim founded Hasty Enterprises, as a small business venture, which was later renamed Hasty Awards when his son Steven joined the family business and later began leading the company. Jim retired in 2003. While living in Colorado he taught Industrial Arts. He was a swim instructor and coach for 30 years, including several years for the Ottawa Swim Club. He was the only Colorado Swim Coach to lead an AA School team to an All State Championship. He organized the Northern Colorado Swim League in 1957. Many of his swimmers became college All Americans and several became coaches themselves. Since 1963, Jim was a member of the National International Swimming Coaches Association. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Jim enjoyed woodworking, glass painting and cat rescuing. Many in the community enjoyed Jim and Judy’s hospitality when they hosted the annual July 4th celebration and fireworks display. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family and supporting their activities. On March 16, 1960, Jim was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” Wells at Englewood, Colorado. They enjoyed 52 years together. Judy survives of the home. Jim is survived by his wife Judy; two sons, Scott K. Hasty, wife Gina and their daughters Rachel and Brooke of Avon, Indiana; and Steven J. Hasty, wife Anne and their sons Austin, Adam and Alex of Ottawa; sister, Marsha Waylene Platt of San Ramon, California; and niece, Amora Worrall of Pleasanton, California. He is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Ottawa. IN STATE: Mr. Hasty will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2012, where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Westminster Presbyterian Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
