Jesse Roy Hamblin

Jesse Roy Hamblin was born November 16, 1929, at Montrose, Colorado. He was the son of Charles D. and Minnie L. (Barks) Hamblin. Jesse grew up in Olathe, Colorado. He lived in Bakersfield, California fourteen years, moving to Richmond, Kansas in 1995. In 2000, he moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home until his death Saturday, November 6, 2004, at the age of seventy-four years. Jesse attended school in Olathe, Colorado. He operated heavy equipment for a total of about thirty years. He worked for Paul Peters Construction Co. in Maricopa, California for about thirteen years, retiring in 1992. Jesse served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member and Jr. Vice President of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, of Ottawa. Jesse was a kind, caring person, who greatly loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and working Bingo nights at the V.F.W. He also enjoyed the outdoors and liked to go hunting and fishing. On November 29, 1969, Jesse was united in marriage with Betty Joan Taylor at Tonganoxie, Kansas. She preceded him in death November 23, 2000. He is also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bobby, Kenneth, and Loy Hamblin; and, two stepchildren, Clinton and Clifford Moore. Jesse is survived by his companion, Ruth Moore of their home; four sons, Jesse Hamblin, Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Richmond, KS, Allen Hamblin and his wife, Rena, of Bakersfield, CA, Garry Hamblin and his wife, Tammie, of Richmond, Scott Hamblin and his wife, Amber, of Bakersfield, CA; daughter, Kathy Robins and her husband, Robin, of Bakersfield, CA; twelve stepchildren, Sandy Bauer of Jacksonville, FL, Buddy Moore and his wife, Janice, of Princeton, KS, Jan Smith and her husband, Virgil, of Ottawa, Mike Moore and his wife, Debbie, of Richter, KS, Linda Leach and her husband, Don, of Ottawa, Glenda Yates and her husband, Ron, of Ottawa, Sandra Gilliam and her husband, Frank, of Ottawa, Debbie Feitz of Ottawa, Pam Strickland, and her husband, Steve, of Ottawa, Kathy Leach and her husband, Mark, of Ottawa, Darrell Moore and his wife, Cristi, of Rantoul, Jamie Moore of Ottawa; stepdaughter-in-law, Donna Moore, Lenexa, KS; two sisters, Nadine Wills of Taft, CA, Phyllis White of Maricopa, CA; brother, Clifford Hamblin and his wife, Hazel, of Montrose, CO; forty-seven grandchildren; and, thirty-eight great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Richmond Cemetery 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2004, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa. OFFICIANT: Pastor Richard Dunn. INSTATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Hamblin after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
