Jesse James Turley was born November 20, 1983, at San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of James Virgil Turley and Naomi Lorraine (Lacey) (Turley) Mock. He lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Pleasanton, Texas, before moving to Quenemo, Kansas in February of 2004, where he made his home until his death Friday, December 31, 2004, at the age of twenty-one years. Jesse graduated from Renaissance High School in Plainwell, Michigan, with the class of 2001. He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Emporia, Kansas, and Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Ottawa. Since October of 2004, he worked in the receiving department of Wal-Mart Supercenter in Ottawa. He previously worked at Pizza Hut and McDonald's in Ottawa. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Naomi and Robert Mock of Quenemo, Kansas; five sisters, Jasmine Mock of Quenemo, Brianna Turley of Texas, Bethany Turley of Texas, Christy Jean Lacey and Cassie; two uncles, Vincent Lacey of Allen, Kansas, Keith Lacey of Maryland; six aunts, Cheryl Sinclair of Emporia, Kansas, Sheila Lacey of Emporia, Janie Mae of Oklahoma, Sarah, Sandra, and Laura Turley; paternal grandmother, Lois Turley of Ardmore, Oklahoma; maternal grandmother, Kay Lacey of Quenemo; many cousins; and special friend, Brandi Parker of Ottawa. He is preceded in death by his father; maternal grandfather, Earl Turley, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Betty Louise Crouch; and uncle, Earl Turley, Jr. His maternal grandfather, Wayne Ronald Lacey, died January 2, 2005. The following tribute was written by his mom, Naomi' James had a soft heart, never stayed mad at anyone very long. If someone else was sad or mad, he would cut the crazy till they smiled back at him. He loved to tickle his little sister and girlfriend. He would say, 'well hello!' when he saw you. A sparkle in his eyes and an impish grin made you wonder what he was up to. He loved to collect wolves, and he and Christy would fight over the collectibles, while laughing at the same time. He was always willing to help with any task needing done around the farm. 'Smuther!' he would call his mom. He was a good hard worker and loved kids. His nickname was 'Joker'. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Phillip McGee. IN STATE: Mr. Turley has been cremated.
