Jerry W. Yost was born July 11, 1944, at Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Harold and Ruth (Klinger) Yost. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, he made his home in Ottawa until his death on Thursday, September 26, 2002, at the age of fifty-eight years. He was a custodian for U.S.D. 290 and U.S.D. 287. He had previously been employed at Bendix Mobil Homes and Wolf Creek Power Plant. Jerry was a twenty-five year member of the National Guard attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in units in Ottawa, Paola, and Garnett, retiring in 1997. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church of Ottawa. He was a member of the Ottawa Bowling Association. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors. Camping and fishing were a nice way for him to relax. He was an avid bowler. He always enjoyed the time spent with his friends on league nights. He collected trains and antiques. Most important to Jerry was his family. He loved spending time with them all. He enjoyed life and his friends and family loved to spend time enjoying life with him. On June 28, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage with Diana Burns at Ottawa. They later divorced. On March 4, 1995, Jerry was united in marriage with Janice Roehl at Ottawa. She survives of their home. Also, surviving are his daughter, Sheri Morgan and her husband, Arthur, of Ottawa; his step-son, Wayne Paul and his wife, Joni, of Loveland, Colorado; two step daughters, Nancy Paul of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Karen Armstrong and her husband, James, of Ottawa; two sisters, Lois Jean Ashworth of Ottawa, Janice McFadden and her husband, Glen, of Grove, Oklahoma; his brother, Edwin L. Yost of Aiken, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Adrian and Shelbie Morgan; five step-grandchildren, Brandi Ingram, Rafelita Atencio, Michael Paul, James Armstrong, Tiffany Armstrong; and four step-great-grandchildren, Dariann Ingram, Ernie Ingram, Raven Ingram, and Fabricio Ortega. Preceding him in death are his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Harriett Bechtle IN STATE: Mr. Yost will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6-7 Sunday evening.
