Jerry Lynn Bentley, 61, passed away peacefully Monday, July 21, 2014, at his home in Spring Hill, Kansas, with his family by his side. Family will meet with friends at 9:30 A.M., Friday, July 25, 2014, at Dengel & Son Mortuary followed by funeral services at 10:30 A.M. Interment Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Kansas. Jerry was born Tuesday, June 2, 1953, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Wayne and Betty Illene (Bradford) Bentley. He lived in Spring Hill since 1996, moving from Olathe, Kansas, where he resided from 1987 to 1996. He previously lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from 1971 to 1987. He graduated from Topeka High School with the class of 1970. Jerry was united in marriage with Jan Engbrecht June 6, 1998, in Ottawa. She survives of the home. Survivors also include his two children, Jessica Peters and husband Evan of Lenexa, and Joshua Bentley and girlfriend Lisa Brewer of New Orleans, Louisiana; stepdaughter, Misty Tarlton of Weatherford, Texas; seven grandchildren, Ava, Elena and Clara Peters, Mila Bentley, Darren and Destri Tarlton and Heather Davis; stepmother, Shirley Bentley of Ottawa; brother, Larry Bentley and wife Annette of Osage City; stepsister, Lana Bogle of Texas; and many nieces and nephews who were very special to him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jerry was a lifelong carpenter, specializing in finish and trim work, for residential and commercial properties. He also was the owner and operator of Bentley Trim Carpentry for forty years. Jerry was a warm and caring man who loved his family and grandchildren and their time spent together. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, snow skiing, water skiing, and golf. He will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever.
