Jeremiah Edward 'Ed' Crabb, V, was born on Wednesday, June 12, 1918, in Linwood, Kansas. He was the son of Jeremiah Edward, IV, and Grace Opal (Hallenbeck) Crabb. Ed moved with his family to Colony, Kansas in 1934 and Williamsburg in 1935. In July of 2006, Ed moved to the Richmond Health Care Facility in Richmond, Kansas, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the age of eighty-eight years. Ed attended schools in Linwood and Colony, Kansas. He owned and operated Crabb's Grocery and Service Station from 1951 until 1980, and Crabb's Salvage, until failing health forced him to retire in 2002. Ed served in the United States Army from October of 1941 to September of 1945, during World War II, attaining the rank of Buck Sergeant and receiving decorations and citations including Bronze Service Arrowhead, American Defense Service Ribbon, and Lapel Button. His tour of duty included Tunisia, Sicily, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Ed was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, Hull-Cromwell Post #119, American Legion in Waverly, Kansas and Williamsburg Lions Club. He served as mayor of Williamsburg in the 1960's and a City Councilman for many years. On December 30, 1948, Ed was united in marriage with Captola Beauthon 'Cap' Smith in Phoenix, Arizona. She survives of their home in Willliamsburg. He is also survived by his son, Jeremiah E. 'Jerry' Crabb, VI and his wife, Vicki, of Peoria, Illinois; two daughters and their husbands, Donna S. and Ron Nyght of Shawnee, Kansas, Marianne and Randy Vilander of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Hugh Crabb of Florida, William C. Crabb of Columbia, Missouri; sister, Arlie R. Riggs of Westcliffe, Colorado; and eight grandchildren, Grace Dunlap, John Dunlap, Caitlin Crabb, Hayley Crabb, Rachael Vilander, Brandon Vilander, Hillary Crabb, and Rebecca Nyght. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Crabb; and sister, Jennie Lou Crabb. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, Kansas 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, with graveside inurnment services at 2:00 p.m. also on Monday. IN STATE: Mr. Crabb was cremated. The family will meet with friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m Sunday at Dengel & Son Mortuary. CEMETERY: Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, Kansas.
