Jerald W. “Jerry” Johnson, 69, of Pomona, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Olathe Health Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 5, 2019, at the Ottawa Community Church, 824 W. 17th. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 4, 2019, at the church. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Jerry was born November 3, 1949, in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Oscar and Martha (Pritchett) Johnson. He grew up in Arkansas moving in 1970 to Pomona. He graduated from Hoxie High School in Arkansas with the class of 1969. Jerry was united in marriage to Karen Cook December 18, 1970, in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Bryan W. Johnson and wife Shelly of Pomona and Jerald Johnson and wife Misty of Ottawa; six siblings, Hulen Moore and wife Laurie of Powhatan, Arkansas, Verna Rivera of Ottawa, Lillie Kiefer of Paragould, Arkansas, Mary Leach of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Teresa McEntire and husband Danny of Clover Bend, Arkansas, and Sharon Kay Forrester and husband Frank of Imboden, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Camron Johnson, Emma Johnson and Avery Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold Moore, Ronnie Moore and Marvin Johnson; and stepmother, Willetta Johnson. Jerry began his career with Berico Industries in Waverly as a fabricator. He later went on to work at Ottawa Truck/Kalmar for nearly 30 years. This was his passion until he retired in 2017. Jerry made lifelong friends that he cherished until the end. He was a member of the Pomona City Council for 10 years. Jerry attended Ottawa Community Church. Jerry will be remembered for his love of family and grandchildren. He enjoyed working on cars in his garage and was an avid sports fan watching KU Jayhawks basketball, KSU football and KC Chief’s.
