Jeffrey Charles Church, born June 15, 1961, in Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on April 9,2025, at his home in Ottawa. He was 63 years old.
Jeff was the beloved child of Clio (Caleb) and Ralph Church. He grew up in Pomona, Kansas, where he attended local schools and graduated from high school in 1979. Shortly after graduation, Jeff began his career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in Amarillo, Texas, working as a switchman. His dedication and aptitude led him to successfully complete the written examinations to become both a conductor and an engineer—roles that reflected his intelligence and strong work ethic.
On September 21, 1982, Jeff married Sharon Bunce in Wichita Falls, Texas. From this union came their daughter, Ashley Marie. Though they later divorced, Jeff remained a proud father and grandfather.
Following the passing of his father in October 1989, Jeff returned home to Kansas to be closer to family—a decision that underscored the importance of familial bonds throughout his life.
Jeff was known for his remarkable memory; he could recall with precision the dates of snowstorms, tornadoes, floods, and countless family events. His sharp mind was matched by a vibrant sense of humor.
He loved telling jokes and sharing laughter with those around him. His presence brought joy and levity to many moments and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jeff is survived by his daughter Ashley Barb (Steven) of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren Katelyn (Tristan) Maciejack and great-granddaughter Violet; Kylie Goode; Augustine, Gianna, Kolbe and Sebastian Barb. He also leaves behind his sisters Sandra King (Tim) and Sara Pabst (Doug), both of Ottawa; nephews Taylor Pabst, Dalton Pabst (Felissia), Dustin Clary, Brandon Clary; as well as many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three nephews; Caleb Larsh, Eric Chapman and Brenden Clary
Jeffrey will be cremated and buried at graveside services April 24, 2025, at 11am at Munsee Indian Cemetery.
