Jeffery D. Lantis, 55, passed away Wednesday, October 9,2024 at Ottawa, Kansas.
Family will greet friends Tuesday, October 15, from 5:30-7:30pm., at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Graveside services will be 10:00am., Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Central Cemetery, 2085 Colorado Road, Pomona, Kansas.
Jeff was born Tuesday August 26, 1969 at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Wellington, Kansas the son of Stan and Sylvia (Mooney) Lantis.
Jeff grew up in southern Kansas with his best friends Brian Cooper, Mike Bonesteel, and his bad influences David Lee and Wayne Carson. He was a boy’s boy meaning he liked frogs, snakes, and creepy crawly things.
Later in life he developed a love for hiking, often walking between Ottawa and Pomona. He planned out his dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail. In October 2023, his sisters took him on an amazing trip allowing him to walk on the trail as well as spending time in Virginia Beach playing in the sand.
He also loved working with beads and paracord, making pieces for his family. Jeff had an extensive knife collection and loved spending time with family.
Jeff attended Pomona High School and graduated with the Class of 1988. He attended Job Corps in Manhattan, Kansas and earned an associate’s degree in Horticulture from Kaw Valley Technical College in Topeka, Kansas. He later completed the program at Kansas Services for the Blind to learn job skills and how to live independently.
Jeffery had an amazing love for “old” people and spent many hours at the Sr. Center in Ottawa, and he loved his time doing Bible Studies with the Blair’s.
Jeff is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Charles and Lucille Lantis; maternal grandparents Hazel Vickers and Marlin Mooney; and his beloved service dog Quesadilla.
He is survived by his parents Sylvia Land of Ottawa and Stan Lantis of Pomona; brother Chris (Diana) Land of Germany; sisters Nicole (Bret) Carey and Michelle (Richard) Harms of Pomona; nieces Adelina Land and Miranda (Dakota)Carter; and nephews Gustav Land, Coleby Carey, Joe (Caci) Harms, and Ray Harms.
