Jeannette Lee Collins, 73, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at The University of Kansas Health System.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Family will meet with friends immediately following the service.
Inurnment will be held later at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Emerald community, Williamsburg, Kansas.
Jeannette was born November 2, 1948, at Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Lena (Peine) Collins. She graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1966, Teachers College of Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1970, and later received a Master’s in Education.
She lived in La Cygne, Kansas for several years before moving to Lawrence where she made her home for the last 30 years.
She was a teacher for several decades teaching in Lawrence, La Cygne, Maple Hill, and Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was a former member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence. Jeannette always loved spending time with family and enjoyed crafts, sewing, traveling, and genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lena Collins, and brother Mark Collins.
Survivors include four children, Kurt (Molly) Riche of Middlebury, Vermont, Kevin Riche of Greenville, South Carolina, Thomas Nieto of Overland Park, Kansas, and David Nieto also of Overland Park; five siblings, Dale Collins of Waverly, Kansas, Irene (Kenneth) Combes also of Waverly, Sara (David) Combes of Lebo, Kansas, Joyce (Bob) Brady of Shawnee, Kansas, and Betty Collins of Williamsburg; and three grandchildren, Brynna Riche, Karic Riche, and Adelaide Riche.
Jeannette would prefer no memorial donations be given in her name but that those who knew her would Pay It Forward.
