Jean Marie Floersch

Jean Marie Floersch was born September 19, 1930, at Emerald, Kansas, the daughter of Emmett and Mary (Bauer) McGrath. She grew up on a farm near Delia, Kansas, moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1959, where she made her home until her death Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at the age of seventy-two years. Jean graduated from Delia High School with the class of 1948 and received her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teacher's College. She was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife. Prior to her marriage, she taught school five years in Jackson and Wabaunsee Counties. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa and active in the Sacred Heart Altar Society. Mrs. Floersch was a lovely lady and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her husband and family and greatly enjoyed being a homemaker. On June 5, 1952, Jean was united in marriage with Mathias Floersch in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Delia, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by two sons, Jim Floersch and his wife, Sandy, of Eudora, Kansas, Mathias Floersch and his wife, Elizabeth, of Nashville, Tennessee; four daughters, Bernice Altenhofen and her husband, Craig, of Junction City, Kansas, Frances Falk and her husband, John, of Robinson, Kansas, Jean Frank and her husband, Steve, of Colony, Kansas, Janice McPherson and her husband, Richard, of Silver Springs, Maryland; twenty-three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and uncle, Harry McGrath of Harrison, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert McGrath; sister, Frances McGrath; and grandson, Matthew Floersch. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa, CEMETERY: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa. INSTATE and VISITATION: Mrs. Floersch will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Thursday, where a Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, followed by a family visitation at 7:30. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
