A memorial service for Jean Loehrding Artinger, 93, who died Monday, April 7, 2014, at her home in Ottawa, KS, will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, 10:00 A.M., Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, with Rev. Charles Adams officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Born August 14, 1920 in Belleville, IL, she was the daughter of Albert Louis Loehrding and Magdalene Korte Loehrding. On January 6, 1945, eleven days after his commissioning as a Navy pilot, she married Walter Charles Artinger in Belleville. After attending Belleville Township High School and the University of Illinois, she worked as a model prior to World War II. During the war, she was the executive secretary to Captain Andrew McNally III, president of Rand McNally Mapmakers and head of the United States Army Map Service located in St. Louis, MO. After moving to Ottawa, KS in 1958, she became an active member of the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president in 1965 and a member of the board in 1994. She was the fiscal officer for East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging, retiring in 1991. From 1992 to 1999, she served as the Franklin County representative to the Childrens Mercy Hospital Regional Council in Kansas City. She was also a long-standing member of Faith Lutheran Church, Entre Nous, Ottawa Country Club Womens Golf Association, and Friends of the Ottawa Library. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, her parents, and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Artinger McHugh of Columbia, MO, son, Karl Artinger of Lees Summit, MO, four grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.
