Jean Geist, 93, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Baldwin City, Kansas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa.
A Rosary will be said at 6:00 P.M., Friday, April 28, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa, followed by a visitation at Sacred Heart Parish Center from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Interment at Mt Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa.
Jean was born Wednesday, November 13, 1929, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Dale and Aletha (Bullock) Winn.
She was a life-long Ottawa resident.
She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1949.
Jean was united in marriage with Robert R. “Bob” Geist on June 9, 1949, at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1997.
Jean worked for Southwestern Bell in Ottawa as an operator, at the Franklin County Day Care in Ottawa, and later for USD 290 in Ottawa as a paraprofessional. She loved to play Bridge; spent entire summers watching her children and grandchildren play sports; enjoyed eating at Applebee’s and especially loved family gatherings, especially for Christmas.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents, Dale and Aletha Winn; grandson, Russel Geist; and son-in-law, Ralph Housman.
Survivors include her children, Shari Housman of Raymore, Missouri, Teresa McClay and her husband, Bob, Denise Roggenkamp and her husband, Duane of Baldwin City, Kansas, Richard “Rick” Geist, Joseph Geist (Shela Chilton), Paul Geist and his wife, Debbie, Robert “Rob” Geist and his fiancé, Kathy McGrath, all of Ottawa, John Geist and his wife, Denise of Garden City, Kansas, Annette Ferguson and her husband, Brad of Wellsville, Kansas and Phillip Geist and his wife, Terra of Williamsburg, Kansas; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
We so appreciate the love and care shown to Mom, both from staff and residents, at Baldwin Health Care & Rehab Center. Their love shown to Mom has been a great comfort to all of us.
