John Alvin “Jay” Bacon, IV, was born on Wednesday, November 27, 1968, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of John A. Bacon, III and Mary Ann (White) Bacon. Due to his father’s military career, Jay and his family lived in several locations including Greece, Spain, Japan, and Ft. Meade, Maryland. In 1986, Jay moved from Ft. Meade to Ottawa, where he made his home until his death on Friday, March 30, 2012, at the age of forty-three years. Jay graduated from Meade High School in Ft. Meade, Maryland, with the class of 1986. He received his Bachelor of Psychology Degree from Ottawa University in 1990. The past fifteen years, he was employed at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Ottawa. His latest position was quality assurance dock verifier. In January of 1990, Jay was employed part-time as a News Director for KOFO Radio in Ottawa and full time from October 1, 1991, to June 30, 1993. From 1994 to 1999, he was a Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. Jay was deeply devoted to his family and loved spending time with their children. He also loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, and going for long walks. On October 5, 2008, Jay was united in marriage with Dorothy “Dottie” Rippetoe in Kansas City, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two sons, Jacob P. Hartman and Tristian S. Hodges, both of the home; daughter, Trinity N. Rippetoe of the home; mother, Mary Ann Bacon of Ottawa; brother, Robert Bacon and his wife, Stephanie, of Ottawa; sister, Sarah (Bacon) Travino of Kansas City, Kansas; niece, Riley Bacon of Ottawa; nephew, Nicholas Bacon of Ottawa; mother-in-law, Lee Haynes and her husband, Gil, of Claremore, Oklahoma; and father-in-law, Larry Tucker of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his father, John A. Bacon, III; paternal grandparents, Dr. John A. Bacon, Jr. and Shirley (Ramey) Bacon; and maternal grandparents, Marvin White and Shirley Servatius White. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. IN STATE: Jay’s wishes were for cremation with his cremains scattered in the ocean. A Rosary Service will be held at the Mortuary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, followed by family visitation at 7:00 MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
