Janiece Buchanan

Helen "Janiece" Buchanan, 87, of Kansas City, passed away on May 17, 2023 at North Care Hospice.

She was born on January 31, 1936 to Russell and Helen (Barricklow) Staves at Paola, KS. Janiece always had fond memories of the wonderful life they gave her. Janiece was the younger of two daughters. She always considered her beloved sister Norma to be her best friend. Janiece graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended college at the University of Kansas.

Janiece worked as an administrative assistant for Hallmark Cards for 30 years and retired in 2008. She was very proud of having worked for Hallmark and very thankful for being treated like family during her tenure.

She was an avid genealogist and reader. She played the flute and was a music teacher in her younger years. Janiece had a loom in which she produced scarves, coverlets, place mats, and many other woven items from yarn and wool. Her canine companion Molly was the joy of her life for 18 years. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels around her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Norma Norrid.

Janiece is survived by her cousin Russ Staves and his wife Alice along with other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 26 2023 at Miami Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Paola, Kansas.
