Janice Marie Coombes, 76, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will take place later at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. The Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M., Monday, August 2, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary followed by a visitation for family and friends from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Janice was born December 31, 1944, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of James Eugene and Roberta Jean (New) Welch. She grew up in Princeton, Kansas, moving to Kansas City, Kansas where she lived for 15 years. In 1989, Janice moved to Ottawa, where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1962 and continued her education at Neosho County Community College studying telecommunications. She also had 911 dispatcher training. In 1963, Janice was united in marriage to Richard E. Teter in Princeton, Kansas. They later divorced. She married James H. “Jim” Coombes July 25, 1992, in Ottawa. Janice was a devoted lifelong homemaker who loved meeting the needs of her family and enjoyed the time they spent together. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, hand crafts and word puzzles. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father James E. Welch; mother Roberta J. Bronson; daughter Debra Campbell, son Leonard Bickerstaff; and grandson David R. Teter. Survivors include husband James H. “Jim” Coombes; daughter Rebecca “Becky” Teter of Mound City, KS; granddaughter Andrea L. Loftus and husband Alex of Glendale Heights, IL; daughter Jackie Garrison of Wichita, KS; son John Bickerstaff of Beaulah, ND; son Lonnie Schulz of Pomona, KS; son Jay Coombes and wife Sonja of Lenexa, KS; daughter Vicki Lloyd and husband Guss of Claremore, OK; brothers, Alan Welch and wife Jenny of Holt, MO, and John W. Donart and wife Lisa of Shawnee KS; sister Rhonda K. Johnson and husband Bob of Surprise, AZ; nephews and nieces, James A Welch and wife Marya of Grain Valley MO, Jason E. Welch and wife Tracy of Cameron, MO, Adam W. Welch and wife Marjan of Pullman, WA, Abigail (Abby) Donart of Wichita, KS, and John W. Donart Jr. of Shawnee, KS; she also had 36 other grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
