Janet Kay DePriest. 70, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, peacefully at her home.
Celebration of Life will be held 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, October 27, 2023 at Hope Anthem Church, Ottawa, Kansas.

Jan was born Tuesday, July 7, 1953, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Luther and Maxine (Rose) Umphenour.
Jan graduated from Ottawa High School in 1971 and went to Clark Business School in Topeka, Kansas. Upon completion she married Harold DePriest on August 5, 1972 and moved to Emporia, Kansas to work for the state of Kansas while Harold went to college.
In 1978 they moved to Kendallville, Indiana for work and lived there until 1991. During this time Jan work at the grade school teaching remedial reading before she worked for a tax preparer. The company only had three employees, but they completed a lot of taxes forms.
In 1991 they moved to San Antonio, Texas for work and Jan worked for an insurance agency. San Antonio experienced frequent family visitors because everyone loved the sights so Jan helped lead the tour of the city.
In 1993 they moved again for work to Highland Village, Texas. Jan became the office manager for a CPA firm and did general bookkeeping also until she retired in 2015.
Upon retirement, Jan and Harold moved back to Ottawa where it all started.
Jan loved being a housewife and a mother. One child was born in Emporia and one child was born in Kendallville after the blizzard of 1978. She enjoyed the friendships gained in each move and maintained many of these friendships for many years.
She completed the seven-year course in Bible Study Fellowship and encouraged Harold to complete the course also. She gained additional friends during these studies.
Jan was an avid cross stitch person. She completed many pieces of varying complexity and along the way she taught others the craft.
As the children grew she welcomed travel to their schools and homes around the country.
Beaches were a welcome vacation to surf, sand and fresh seafood. Destin, Fl. was a welcome destination with family and friends.
Jan was an only child and when she married Harold she gained six brothers and sisters. She enjoyed the big family gatherings for holidays and special occasions.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Maxine Umphenour.
Survivors include husband Harold; daughter Angie Fafatas (Stephen) of Lexington, Virgina, son Ryan DePriest (Anexandra) of Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren Sophia Fafatas, Dean Fafatas, Zoe Evelyn Fafatas, Canaan DePriest, Eden DePriest, and Cesar Ribeiro Martins.
