Jane B. Christie

December 7, 1917 — June 9, 2005

Jane lived in Kansas City, Missouri from 1918 until 1938; Ottawa, Kansas from 1938 until 1970; and Rantoul, Kansas from 1970 until moving to Salina, Kansas in 1988. Jane graduated from Southwest High School with the class of 1934, attended Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri 1934 through 1935 and graduated from University of Missouri in 1938 with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism. Jane was a homemaker, and in the 1960`s worked as a social worker for the Franklin County Department of Social & Rehabilitative Services in Ottawa. Jane was a member of Delta Delta Delta and Theta Sigma Phi, an honorary journalism fraternity, both at Missouri University, Zeta Mu Epsilon at Stephens College; and Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Civil Air Patrol, Beta Gamma and Quilters` Guild and a 4-H leader, all in Ottawa, and Ruhamah Baptist Church in Rantoul, Kansas. In Salina she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Church Women`s Circle, Stephen`s Ministry and was a Widowed Person`s Services Counselor at the YWCA. On June 7, 1938 Jane was united in marriage with Rex West Christie at Columbia, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1985. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at Presbyterian Manor in Salina at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2005. Private family inurnment services will be held Monday, June 13, 2005, at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. The family will receive friends Monday from noon until 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Henry Roberts IN STATE: Mrs. Christie was cremated. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to the church of the donor`s choice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
