Jan Allen Garber, age 79, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Louisburg Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Graveside service will be held at 11 am, Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Morrill Cemetery, Morrill, Kansas.

Jan was born on Wednesday, May 17, 1944, in Sabetha, Kansas. He was the son of John Michael and Billye Jeane (Miller) Garber.

Jan grew up in the Sabetha, Kansas area and graduated from Sabetha High School with the class of 1962. After high school, he moved to the Kansas City area. Jan lived in Merriam, Kansas until he moved to Louisburg, Kansas in the early 1970’s. He lived in Louisburg up until the last five years of his life which he spent in Overland Park, Kansas.

Jan was a skilled carpenter. He worked many different jobs and projects during his working life. Jan did residential and commercial remodeling jobs around the metro.

He was a former member of the Two-Cylinder Club and was also the president of the Miami County Antique Tractor Association.

Jan enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years. He was an avid antique tractor collector and loved to restore them to their former glory. Jan also enjoyed farming, he had many acres of hay ground and row crop in the Louisburg area. Every year, Jan would get to show off his gardening skills to his friends and neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Billye Jeane Garber; and two sons, Jeffrey and Craig Garber.

Survivors include his children, Kerin (Dwayne) Lumm, Gale Salzman and Shawn Garber; siblings, Mike Garber, Tania (Richard) Meiners and Terry Garber; one grandchild, Kallie (Taylor) Goodman; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to the American Diabetes Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
