It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Christian West, who left us on March 23, 2025, at the age of 45. Born on February 7, 1980, James lived a life of devotion to his family, friends, and work, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. He passed away at home from heart-related issues.
James graduated from Crest High School in 1998 and worked tirelessly throughout his life to support those he loved. His career began humbly, holding various jobs, before he found his true calling as an Apprentice at Ironworkers Local 10 in 2005. After three years of hard work and dedication, he proudly earned the title of Journeyman Ironworker; a profession he cherished and continued until his passing.
In 2006, James married Amanda Burnett, and together they welcomed three beloved children: Wyatt, Jolene, and Colton. His children were his greatest joy and his love for them knew no bounds. While James and Amanda later divorced, his devotion to their children remained unwavering.
James faced significant health challenges, undergoing two open-heart surgeries. Despite these hardships, his resilience never faltered. James returned to his ironwork career, embracing life with an infectious spirit and never allowing his health to define him.
In 2024, James moved to Ottawa, KS, where he met his loving girlfriend, Amanda Miller. The two enjoyed many happy months together, creating new memories that will be cherished forever.
James was preceded in death by his father, Rick West; his paternal grandparents, Herb and Betty West; his maternal grandparents, Lou and Lorrain Yulich; his aunts, Elaine Needham and Barbara West; and his cousin, Mark West.
He is survived by his adored children, Wyatt, Jolene, and Colton West; his devoted mother, Bibby West; his siblings, sister DiAnne Miller (David Jones), brother Travis West (Racheal); his other brother, Tommy Harris (Christine), and his girlfriend, Amanda Miller.
James's love for his children was immeasurable, and he worked tirelessly to ensure they had everything they needed, even sacrificing his prized motorcycle to provide for them. His strong, fearless personality made him a rock for his loved ones—he was honest, dedicated, compassionate, and unwaveringly supportive. He had a sharp sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew him.
A lover of motorcycles, James was an active member of a local motorcycle club for several years. He loved to spend time with family and friends. His soft spot for stray dogs often had him taking them in and giving them a forever home. His deep sense of community was reflected in his love for his Union Brothers, who have supported him and his family through many hard times. James had an eclectic taste in music, ranging from Hick-Hop and Country to Classic Rock; always preferring loud, bass-heavy tunes. He had a love for bar food, sharing many meals and laughs with friends.
James will be remembered as a loving father, son, and brother, a loyal friend, and a man of great character. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
