James Patrick “Jim” Dorsey, 70, of Wellsville, KS, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS 66206. The Rosary will be held at 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at St. James Academy, 24505 Prairie Star Pkwy, Lenexa, KS 66227, followed by a visitation for family and friends from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Interment Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Rd, Lenexa 66215. Jim was born March 11, 1951, in Baltimore City, Maryland, the son of Pete and Bette (Moore) Dorsey. He grew up in Sykesville, Maryland, moving to Olathe, Kansas. In 1975, Jim moved to Wellsville where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Glenelg High School in Maryland with the Class of 1969. Jim continued his education at a community college in Baltimore graduating with an associate of arts in 1971. In 1973, Jim graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology. On February 16, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Claerhout in Olathe, Kansas. This union was blessed with 3 children, Brent, Bryan and Jill, and they celebrated 47 years of marriage. Jim was a lifelong farmer and worked as a bricklayer in the early to mid-1970’s. He was a supervisor with Kansas Gas Service for 36 years. He was a member of the Ottawa Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3018. Jim loved his family, kids and grandkids and the time they spent together. He never missed their sporting events and enjoyed meeting new people, never having met a stranger. Jim’s lifelong passion was farming. He loved his cattle who he sang to regularly and called his “ladies”. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jonathan Dorsey; and nephew Justin Dorsey. Survivors include his wife Dixie of the home; three children, Brent Dorsey (Laura) of Wellsville, Bryan Dorsey (Nancy) of Olathe, and Jill Hall (Kevin) also of Olathe; seven siblings, Susan Wilson, William Dorsey (Louise), Mike Dorsey (Marsha), Phil Dorsey (Claudia), Mary Ellen Waltemire (Chuck), Rick Dorsey (Carol), and Joe Dorsey (Joni); twelve grandchildren, Jimmy, Willie, Pete, Liam, Finley, Ellen, Cooper, Dax, Fiona, Jonah, Fletcher, and Zeke. The family suggests memorial contributions to Ottawa Sacred Heart Catholic School c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
