James Lee "Jim" Jumet

James Lee “Jim” Jumet, 86, of Rantoul, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am, Friday, December 29, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa, Kansas.

Vigil for the Deceased will be held 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas. Rosary will be said 5:30 pm prior to vigil.

Interment Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul.

Jim was born Monday, February 8, 1937, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Eugene and Anna M. (Roeser) Jumet.

He lived in Tonganoxie, Kansas for nine years before moving to Rantoul where he resided for over forty-four years.

Jim graduated from Mineral Kansas High School with the class of 1956.

He was united in marriage on July 1, 1961, in Chicopee, Kansas to Julia Peak. She survives of the home.

Jim worked as a powder man in road construction for Reno Construction in Stanley, Kansas and United Construction in Lenexa, Kansas.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Laborers International Union Local 663 Kansas City, Missouri.

Jim was an outdoors man and liked fishing, hunting, and raising a garden. He enjoyed watching Chiefs football and Nascar racing, but especially loved his time spent with his family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Anna; brother Gene Jumet; sisters Ethel Coleman and Rose Mattson; infant sister Mable E. Jumet; and daughter in law Cassie Jumet.

Along with his wife Julia, survivors include four children Mike Jumet (Tara) of Colony, Kansas, Steve Jumet (Pam) of Osawatomie, Kansas, Dan Jumet (Amy) of Olathe, Kansas, and John Jumet (Stephanie) of Richmond, Kansas; nineteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
