James Jim Eldon Woods, 70, of Brenham, went home to be with the Lord August 23, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Jim was born July 12, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Oscar and Velma (Sink) Woods. He served his country in the Air Force and was self-employed in the construction/telecommunications industry for 42 years. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a lifelong friend to all that knew him. He loved to spend his time hunting, fishing, and golfing, when he wasn’t raising and riding champion cutting horses. Jim was preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Velma Woods, his brothers Alan, Roy, and Glen of Kansas, and his sister Audrey Mallory of Florida. Jim is survived by his wife, Tharon Anderson of Brenham; son, Christopher Lee Woods of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law, Leanne Marie and Carl Sandhoff of Humble, Deitra and Gary Koerth of Brenham, Tracy and Doug Tatum of Hiram, Georgia and Leslie Kay Woods of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren, Tyler Walls, Kailyn Koerth and Isabella Chinchilla, and numerous nephews and nieces. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with a reception immediately following at Salem Fire Department and Recreation Center. Graveside service will be held Friday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Centropolis, Kansas. Dengel & Son Mortuary of Ottawa is incharge of cemetery services.
