James "Jim" Stringham, age 85, of rural Paola, Kansas passed away December 22, 2018. He was the son of the late Willard and Lillian Stringham and was born on November 7, 1933 in Osawatomie, Kansas. He attended Osawatomie schools and graduated in 1951. He then entered an apprenticeship as a diesel electrician with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He worked for the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad until November 1994. On August 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Laverne Prothe at Block in Paola, Kansas. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. The marriage was blessed with six children. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters, and his son Bill Stringham. He is survived by his wife Laverne; his children Sheryl (Mike) Giebler, Brenda (Martin) Janzen, Rob Stringham, Shelli (Bill) Barnes; and Steve (Jill) Stringham; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and his sister Dorothy Nease. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Dengel and Son Mortuary, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071. The funeral ceremony will immediately follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Memorials are to Ascend Hospice or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter and can be sent in care of the funeral home. Family and friends are encouraged to post their memories and condolences on Jim's tribute wall.
