James "Jim" Martin Minden, age 69, of rural Osawatomie, Kansas passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at his home. Jim was born August 10, 1948 at Paola, Kansas. He was the second of four children born to Melvin Martin and Bessie June (Vanatta) Minden. He grew up in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1967. After graduating from high school, Jim served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on October 8, 1969. Jim and Janie Griffith were united in marriage on July 3, 1970 at Paola, Kansas. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three sons. He worked as a welder for Tech Air in Osawatomie and then went to work for the railroad as a brakeman/conductor. He worked at NAPA, Tim Worthy Transmission, and Metcalf Ridge Golf Course in Louisburg to keep out of trouble after retiring. Jim loved to hunt and fish. He looked forward to their annual family pheasant hunting trip to western Kansas every year. Jim could often be found tinkering in his garage, teaching the grandkids many of his mechanical talents. His kids enjoyed growing up and playing on the river with their dad. Jim especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. Getting to be "Boogie's" official babysitter was an honor for him. Jim very seldom missed any of his grandchildren's school events or activities. We can't forget Jim's beloved canine "Buddy." Jim allowed Buddy into the house with hesitancy, but soon became very attached to his beloved canine friend. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Janie of the home; three sons Jimmy (Kathy Carver) of rural Osawatomie, Jered (Stacia) of Parker, and Jason (Michelle) of Parker; 11 grandchildren Clint, Kody, Tanner, Mackayla, Hunter, Hannah, Logan, Andrew, Mackenzie, Ethan, and Mackenna; one sister Diana (Alvin) Simon of Fall City, NE; two brothers Dennis (Brenda) of Osawatomie and Randy of Paola; many other relatives and friends. Friends and family are encouraged to leave fond memories or messages of condolence to Jim's family by clicking on the "Share a Memory" tab.
