James G. “Jim” Oestreicher, Jr., 81, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Olathe Medical Center. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 30, 2020, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. A Rosary will be held at 7:30 P.M. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. Jim was born November 28, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of James G. Sr. and Kathryn (Haberkorn) Oestreicher. He was a lifelong resident in the Princeton, Kansas area. Jim graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1956 and attended Pittsburg State University. He was united in marriage to Barbara Robertson June 13, 1959 in Richmond, Kansas. They later divorced. Jim was a utility machine operator for Delco Battery in Olathe, Kansas from 1958 until his retirement in 1999. He was also a farmer/stockman farming with his dad from the early 1950’s to 1972. He was the Richmond City Mayor for 2 terms in the late1960’s. Jim was a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Richmond, Kansas serving on the church board and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2680 at St. Boniface in Scipio. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers #1021 in Kansas City, Kansas. He served on the Richmond Recreation Board and supported the Richmond Free Fair for many years especially the frog jump, turtle race, and ladies shoe kicking events. Jim is survived by his children, Marty Oestreicher of Garnett, Steve Oestreicher (Suzan Ball) of Richmond, Connie Guilfoyle (Curt) of Richmond and Katie Riemer (Tom) of Ottawa; sister, Sandra Austin (Paul) of Belton, Missouri; sister-in-law, Alma White of Gardner; eight grandchildren, Audrey LeVota (Phil), Aaron Oestreicher (Kaleigh), Tyler Oestreicher (Lori), Megan Oestreicher, Charity Thurston (Nate), Heather Morey (Zach), Dalton Riemer, Hailee Riemer, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William “Bill” White, great granddaughter, Mya Oestreicher, stepmother, Margarette Oestreicher. Jim liked to fish, hunt and garden. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, sitting in his green chair and relaxing on the dock at Lake Taneycomo.
