James Curtis Huffman, age 45, passed away on September 2, 2009, at St. Luke"s South Hospital in Overland Park, KS. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2009 at the United Methodist Church of Louisburg, 249 N. Metcalf, Louisburg, KS 66053, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Louisburg. Jim was born on February 4, 1964, in Kansas City, KS, to James Rex Huffman and Sherry Bobbette Harrell. He graduated from Schlagle High School in 1982. He then attended the University of Kansas where he met his future wife. Jim was united in marriage to Theresa Ann Lisinski on October 7, 1989, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, KS. Jim began his career with Fed Ex Corporation in January of 1986. For the past eight years, he had been a Business Development Advisor. He won numerous awards during his career with Fed Ex, including 1998 Senior Manager "Best of the Best" Award, 2000 People Management Award, 2005 Ambassador"s Club, and 2007 Business Development Analyst of the Year. Jim was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Sons of the American Legion. He was a coach or assistant coach for all three of his sons" various sports teams, including the 2004 baseball nine year-old division Kansas State Champions. Jim had a heart of gold and was a person you could always count on; night or day, Jim was there. He was a trusted advisor who always made himself available if someone needed help. Jim was a loyal, compassionate person who could always be counted to do or say the right thing. He will be greatly missed by all, especially his wife, 3 sons, mother and brother. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Rex Huffman; paternal grandparents, Curtis Huffman, Elva Huffman Peppard, and Tom Peppard; and maternal grandmother, Nancy Harrell. Survivors include his wife Theresa of the home; sons, Christian, Brennan, and Michael, all of the home; mother, Sherry Portlock of Florida; and brother, Scott Portlock of California. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for college for Christian, Brennan and Michael. Contributions can be sent to Theresa with "College Fund" on the memo line.
