James Arlon “Jim” Hanson, 83, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Evergreen Mound Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 5901. Jim was born May 25, 1935, in Herman, Minnesota, the son of James and Amelia (Matthews) Hanson. He lived in Colorado moving in 1968 to Ottawa. He graduated from Herman High School with the class of 1953. Jim served in the United States Marines in Korea from November 1953 to November 1956 receiving the Korean Service Medal. Jim was united in marriage to Ann DeWald September 18, 1964, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include children, Jason Hanson of North Dakota and Donna Hanson of Ottawa; sister, Carol Hanson of Vallejo, California; two grandchildren, Renee Ann DeCock of Ottawa and Erik Allen DeCock also of Ottawa; and three great grandchildren, Paige, Bella and Evan DeCock. Jim was a lifelong hunting dog trainer and breeder with German Shorthair Pointers. For many years he also drove a bus for USD 290 in the early 1990s to late 2000s. He was a family man, loved his dogs, enjoyed fishing, hunting and KU basketball. The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
