James A Gardner, 85, Paola, Kansas, died July 30, 2008, at his home. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 2, 2008 at the Church of the Latter Day Saints 28750 North Hospital Drive old 169 Highway and K68, Paola, Kansas 66071. Burial in the Louisburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 " 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Olathe Hospice or to USD #416 Endowment Fund. Jim was born December 8, 1922 to Oscar D. and Edna Lee Gardner in Wetmore, Kansas. Jim graduated from Louisburg Rural High School and Kansas State University and played football at Ottawa University. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Watrous in November of 1947. Together they were the parents of three children, Cathy, Jim M. and Karen Jeanne. He was a member of "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints", Paola Branch. He served in the United States Army from 1942-1946. Jim was a Process Engineer at Bendix Corporation for 31 years and retired in 1980. He enjoyed family, church, working outside on the farm and square dancing. Preceding him in death are his parents and a daughter, a sister, Lois Cook and Karen Jeanne Gardner Clark. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Rosemary, daughter Cathy Zumbrunnen and husband, Gary and son, James M. Gardner and wife, Janice all of Paola, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Surviving are also his siblings twin sisters, Doris Bauserman and Dorothy Armstrong both of Stuart, FL, brother Ed Gardner of Ottawa, KS, sisters, MaryEllen Ennis of Louisburg, KS, Carol Welby of Columbus, GA.
