Jackie T. “Jack” Clifton, 66, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his home.

Services will be held 2:00pm, Friday, May 24, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will greet friends following services at the funeral home.

Interment 2:00pm, Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Douglass Cemetery, Douglass, Kansas.

Jack was born Tuesday, July 23, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Noah T. and Dorris M. (Callahan) Clifton.

He graduated from Augusta High School, Augusta, Kansas, with the class of 1976.

Jack entered Terramara sheltered workshop in 1976 while living at home in Douglass, Kansas. He remained a faithful employee for fourteen years at Terramara, where he also became involved with Special Olympics.

He moved from home in 1990 to a group home in Wichita, Kansas, working at the Goodwill Distribution Center. After a year, he moved to a group home in Hartford, Kansas, working at a sheltered workshop, eventually moving to Ottawa, Kansas with COF Training Services.

Jack loved fishing, playing checkers, bowling, watching wrestling and John Wayne movies on the television, and Special Olympics activities. His love for the country was evident in the pride he took displaying the American flag and the bald eagle. Jack also loved to eat, especially home-made ice-cream, egg sandwiches, and chicken fried steak.

He had a great sense of humor and a playful wit. Jack often had something funny to say, and he enjoyed seeing people laugh and have a good time. He was a good friend to all his buddies at COF and he enjoyed visits and phone calls with his family.

Jack was preceded in death by parents Noah and Dorris; and two half brothers Jimmy Porter and Randy Porter.

Survivors include sister JaNell Clark (Steve) of Clearwater, Kansas who served as his guardian and conservator and was dedicated to his care; half-brother Harlan Clifton (Joan) of Fredonia, Kansas; half-sisters Carolyn Beurskens (Phil) of Topeka, Kansas, Janna Powell (Richard) of Joplin, Missouri, and Sue Riddle of Elk City, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jack was a joy to be around and will be greatly missed by his family and the COF staff and clients.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Friends of COF c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
