Jack Ellsworth Carter, 91, of Paola, Kansas passed away at the Miami County Medical Center on March 8, 2019. Jack was born August 31, 1927 in Louisburg, Kansas the third of four children born to Clyde and Bertha Carter. He graduated from Louisburg High School and joined the US Navy during World War II in 1945. After his service in the Navy he attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. Upon graduation he worked for Vendo and Westinghouse Corporations in Kansas City. He spent most of his career as a plant and facilitates engineer with Taylor Forge in Paola, Kansas. He retired at 70 years old. He married Irene Stewart on March 5, 1955 and they were married for 64 years. He is survived by her and three children: Steve Carter and his wife, Martha of Belton Missouri, Sally Heilman and her husband, Steve of Lawrence, Kansas and Susan Carter of Olathe, Kansas. In addition he is survived by nine grandchildren: Amber Evans of Olathe, Kansas, Abby Richards and her husband, Wes of Lee’s Summitt, Missouri, Britton Evans of Olathe, Kansas, Nellie Lawson and her husband, Micah of Olathe, Kansas, Mason Heilman of Boston, Massachusetts, Shelton Heilman and his wife, Amanda of Olathe, Kansas, Winston Heilman and his wife, Jesse of Lawrence, Kansas, Lee Carter of Prairie Village, Kansas and Mattie Carter of Arlington, Virginia. He has six great grandchildren: Rilyn, Talee, Lyla and Meritt Richards, Lanie Lawson and Rissie Evans. Jack will be remembered as a loving Father, Grandfather and friend who loved helping others. There was nothing he could not fix. In retirement he loved gardening and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks. On Sunday mornings he was the first one to greet members as they arrived at the First Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
