Jack Cordle

August 20, 1931 — February 26, 2013

Jack Lee Cordle, age 81, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas from stroke related complications. Jack was born on August 20 1931, in Tubize, Georgia which is on the outskirts of Rome, Georgia, the son of Frank Cordle II, and Ruby (Johnson) Cordle. In 1941 Jack moved to Pensacola, Florida when he was 10 years old. He attended school in Pensacola where he played basketball and football before spending 8 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a wartime vet during the Korean Conflict. Jack was reassigned to Richards Gebaur Air Force Base in South Kansas City, where he met Sara Lee (Sally) Mann and they were married on March 2, 1956. He later had two sons Bruce and Stephen Cordle. After he left the Air Force he continued working with long range radar, having the same career with what would become the Federal Aviation Administration until retirement. They moved to Shawnee, Kansas in 1960 and to Paola, Kansas in 1972 where he lived at the time of his death. After Sally passed away in 2002, Jack married Elsie Waln on November 6, 2004 in Paola, Kansas where they enjoyed 8 years together. Jack was a member of several groups including the Methodist Men, Twin Rivers Camping Club, the American Legion, the Paola Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, and the Louisburg Shrine Club. When his boys were younger he was a Cub Scout Leader and helped with the Boy Scouts. Jack enjoyed the outdoors, loved camping, and went on many trips and cruises. Jack also helped with the Christmas food drive. As years progressed he enjoyed a good book or a movie. I think most of all he enjoyed people and conversation. Survivors include his wife Elsie Cordle of Paola, KS; sons Bruce Cordle of Paola, KS and Stephen Cordle of Branson, MO; daughter Laura Wilson of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren Cameron Cordle of Olathe, KS, Justin Cordle of Fontana, KS, and Michael Wilson of Pensacola, FL; great grandchildren Daniel Wilson, Devon Wilson, and Haile Klouse all of Pensacola, Florida; and great-great grandchildren Devon and Jax Wilson, and Zach Klouse also of Pensacola. Florida. He is also survived by 4 step children, 9 step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Paola Masonic Lodge or Paola United Methodist Church.
