Jack Samuel Christian, a beloved member of the Ottawa, Kansas community, passed away on March 20, 2025, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, Kansas. He was born on April 1, 1920, in Warrensburg, Missouri, and spent a remarkable life dedicated to his family, career, and service to his country and others.

Jack had an enduring career in floor covering, being self-employed, he owned Christian Brothers Floors in Ottawa for an impressive fifty-five years. His hard work and dedication made him a respected figure in the community. A man of deep faith, Jack was a life member of Ottawa Masonic Lodge #18 AF & AM and a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa since 1946.

He completed his education at Lawrence High School, graduating with the class of 1938. In addition to his career and community involvement, Jack proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Drafted in 1943 and stationed in Europe, he was discharged in April 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. His military service earned him the American Theater Ribbon, the EAMET Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Ribbon, reflective of his commitment to his country and the principles of honor and duty.

On October 29, 1943, Jack was united in marriage to Martha Johannes, who preceded him in death on May 9, 2019. Together, they shared a life that exemplified love and partnership, leaving an indelible mark on their family and community. Jack resided in Ottawa, Kansas, since 1943, having moved there from Lawrence.

Jack is survived by his son, Roger Christian (Jennifer) of Manhattan, Kansas; daughters, Elisa Christian of Overland Park, Kansas, and Nancy Bourque (Shaun Kelly) of Ottawa, Kansas. He was a proud grandfather to James Christian (Stacy) of Springfield, Missouri; Angela Christian of Florida; Rachel Christian of Alabama; Charlie Waymire of Panorama City, California; Jen Crowley (Bill) of Ottawa, Kansas; Kristian Olsen of Overland Park, Kansas, William Maxwell (Kristi) of California, and Chelsey Maxwell also of California. Additionally, he leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews who brought joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Christian, Sr. and Ada Ruth Christian; brother, John Christian, Jr.; sister, Roberta Paine; sister, Mildred Williamson; and son-in-law, Darrell Bourque. Each of these family members held a special place in his heart, and their memories will be cherished by those who knew him.

Jack Samuel Christian’s life was a mixture of love, service, commitment, and family. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him. A visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa on March 27, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by a funeral service on March 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Both services will take place at the First United Methodist Church, located at 203 East 4th Street, Ottawa, Kansas, 66067.
