Isabella Z. Dodson

Isabella Zada Dodson was born April 13, 1908, in Flagler, Colorado. She was the daughter of George and Cora E. D. (Oryall) VanPatten. At the age of four, Isabella traveled with her parents, sister, Viola, and brother, George, by covered wagon to Newton, Kansas. Later, in the 1920`s, they traveled by train to Springfield and Clinton, Missouri, where they made their home on a farm. In 1942, she moved with her husband and children to Kansas City. In the 1980`s, to be close to her children and grandchildren, she moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home until her death Saturday, February 16, 2002, at the age of ninety-three years. Isabella attended Clinton (MO) High School with the class of 1926. She was a lifelong homemaker. In her younger years, she was a volunteer for Red Cross. She enjoyed craftwork and loved visiting with her family and grandchildren. On September 28, 1928, Isabella was united in marriage with Orville Eugene Dodson at Lowry City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1974. Also, preceding her in death are her parents; son, Russell Dodson on January 24, 1982; daughter, Russie Harris on November 21, 2000; sister, Viola Jennings on June 10, 1981; and, brother, George VanPatten on April 11, 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Carmenita A. Madrid of Kansas City, Missouri; three sons, George Dodson and his wife, Carol, of Sullivan, Missouri, Robert Dodson and his wife, Pam, of Ottawa, Elmer Dodson of Ottawa; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Dodson of Richmond; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and, special niece, Cora Elaine Jennings of Midvale, Utah. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2002. IN STATE: Mrs. Dodson will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Hope House, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
