Irl H. Proctor, age 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Sunday, March 14, 2010. He was born on Friday, October 8, 1920, in Coffey County near Lebo, Kansas. He was the son of Ben and Lillie (Maine) Proctor. He grew up in Coffey County. He also lived in Quenemo and Topeka, Kansas, moving to Ottawa in 1960. Irl attended school in Lebo, Kansas. He was employed ten years for Santa Fe Railroad; was a mechanic for Mock Motors of Ottawa; and a carpenter associated with Claude Sink and the local lumber yards in Ottawa. They built over fifty homes in the Ottawa area. Irl served in the United States Army during World War II from July 14, 1942, to January 2, 1946, attaining the rank of Tech 4. He earned decorations and citations including World War II Victory Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal; American Theater Ribbon; EAME Theater Ribbon; and one Bronze Service Star. On May 14, 1950, Irl was united in marriage with Alta Marie Barnhart. She preceded him in death in December of 1963. On October 18, 1968, Irl was united in marriage with Frances Irene Hazelrigg in Chanute, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1993. He is survived by his: Son-Harland Proctor of Ottawa, Kansas, Stepdaughter-Jaunita Coleman Ford and her husband, Warren, of Wichita, Kansas, Stepdaughter-Virginia Rader of Newport Beach, California, Sister-Lulu May Starbuck of California, Grandchildren-Chris Proctor, Lyndsey Proctor, Robby Proctor Stepgrandchildren-Jeff and Debra Coleman, Janet Coleman, Ron and Carol Coleman, Stepgreat-grandchildren-Chris and Emily Jimenez, Craig Jimenez. He is preceded in death by his: First Wife-Alta Marie (Barnhart) Proctor Second Wife-Frances Irene (Hazelrigg) Proctor Father-Ben Proctor Mother-Lillie (Maine) Proctor Brother-Wayne Proctor, MIA during World War II Brother-Noel Dean Proctor. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010. IN STATE: Mr. Proctor will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. Family will meet with friends at 1:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral services.
