Irene Roberts

Irene Roberts, age 93, of Wapello, Iowa, formerly of Ottawa, Kansas, died Sunday, September 23, 2012. She was born on Thursday, March 27, 1919, in Franklin County, Kansas, the daughter of William A. and Elma O. (Arnold) Talbott. Irene grew up in Franklin County moving to Washington D.C. in 1941. She lived in Jacksonville, Florida in the mid-forties and returned to Franklin County in 1945 where she made her home until moving to Wapello, Iowa in 2010. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1937. Irene worked for the War Department in Washington D.C. for several years in the 1940’s and Mode O Day in Ottawa in 1951 to 1981. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship and Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. On November 25, 1965 Irene was united in marriage with Lee Roberts in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death April 26, 1981. She is survived by her: Daughter – Patsy (Mangum) Lowe and husband Jack of Amana, Iowa; Daughter – Betty (Mangum) Berkley and husband Ed of Belton, Missouri; Daughter – Lois Stewart and husband Vernon of Ottawa, Kansas; Grandchildren – Joann Hess, Erin Lowe, Tammi Martinson, Chad Smith, Cory Smith, Adam Berkley, Brian Berkley, Tammy McDonald, Loren Stewart, and Larry Stewart; 13 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her: Husband – Lee Roberts; Brother – Seth Talbott; Brother – Charles Talbott and Brother – Ray Talbott. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 28, 2012. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Roberts at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 P.M. Thursday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday. CEMETERY: Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas.
