Imogene Marie Nickel was born April 13, 1929, at Williamsburg, Kansas. She was the daughter of John S. and Mary (Furrer) Largent. Imogene lived in Pomona, Kansas, until the age of nine, then moved north of Pomona. At eighteen, she moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, for four years, Ottawa, for three years, and returned to Kenosha. In 1976, she returned to Pomona, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the age of seventy-three years. She attended Silver Lake, Sand Creek, and Ottawa schools, graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1947. Imogene was an Avon representative and later worked five years for Sears as head of their telephone department, then for Little Joe's, and KB Repair in Pomona. For five years, prior to retirement, she worked as the Treasurer for the City of Pomona. She was a member of AARP and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Nickel enjoyed visiting with her friends and selling Avon. She also enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress. Her greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with her family. She was a very caring, nurturing mother and grandmother. Her children credit her for their good upbringing. On August 21, 1948, Imogene was united in marriage with Robert Anton Nickel at Kenosha, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1985. She is also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eunice Ila Keoning. Imogene is survived by three sons, Robert Anton Nickel, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Germantown, Wisconsin, David Alan Nickel and his wife, Debbie, of Cedar Point, Kansas, Larry Nickel of Pomona, Kansas; daughter, Sheryl Casady of Pomona, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Adam, Jessica, Jacki, Wesley, Mathew, Peter, Russelle, Desiree, and Clinton; three step grandchildren, Joy, J. R., and Wayne; and, nine great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Glen Yancey IN STATE: Mrs. Nickel will lie in state after 5 p.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary until service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7-8 p.m. Friday evening.
