Howard Lee New, age 88, of Osawatomie, Kansas formerly of Princeton and Centerville, died June 25, 2014 at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Richmond, Kansas. Howard was the third of seven children born to Walter and Elsie Mae (Mateer) New. He was born October 23, 1925 at Archie, Missouri. He started school in Baldwin when he was five and then attended high school at Bronaugh, Missouri when the family moved there. Howard was married to Marion Murphy on May 1, 1944 at Girard, Kansas. They became the parents of four children. In 1960, Marion preceded Howard in death. Howard and Marjorie Ann Irvine were united in marriage on June 5, 1961 at Garnett, Kansas. They made their home in Princeton, Kansas, then Centerville before moving to Osawatomie in July 2009. He was a dairy farmer having a herd of 50 cows to milk at one time. He retired in 1996. Visiting with neighbors was one of Howard"s favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed fast pitch softball in his younger years. And he had been known for his coon hunting skills in the past. He was a member of the Princeton Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Kenneth New, two sisters Lydia Jo Kurtz and Opal New, and two sons Walter and Jimmy. He is survived by his wife Ann of the home; four daughters Dorothy Welch of Princeton, Betty (Jack) Mauk of North Fort Meyers, Florida, Susan Keast of Paola, and Pam (Doug) Dunlop of Parker, Kansas; three sisters Edna Hensley of Odessa, Missouri, Leone Marlow of Nevada, Missouri, and Lelia Jane Hacker of Oak Grove, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Memorials are to the American Heart Association or Heartland Hospice.
