Homer Shineman

Homer V. Shineman age 90 of Paola passed away Dec. 28th at the Kansas City Hospice house. Services will be Friday Jan. 2, at the First Lutheran Church 10:30 AM, visitation Thursday 4 to 6:00PM at the Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel. Burial Paola Cemetery. Homer was born February 21, 1918 in Bent County Colorado to Garland and Ellen Owen Shineman. He graduated from Frankfort Kansas High School in 1936 and in 1944 Homer entered the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946, after his European Tour. He was united in marriage to Hilda Lorine Flake on April 19, 1941 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Block, KS . They moved to Paola in 1946 where he opened a tire repair service and later that year purchased a gas station and renamed it Shineman Automotive Service Station which he operated for 34 years before he retired in 1980. Homer was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the oldest member of the Paola VFW Post and the American Legion . His hobbies were traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards, and working with his hands in woodworking. He never met a stranger and was always very accommodating. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Hilda, and one sister Mary Jo Coats. Survivors are his children, son Jerry and wife Marguerite of Granbury, Texas, daughter, Bonnie and husband Clinton Morris of Kansas City, MO., daughter Gloria and husband Gordon Garrett of Overland Park, Kansas, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and one sister Marguerite Forst of Tecumseh, Kansas.
