Homer "Gene" Eugene Myers, 68, passed away December 24, 2016 at St. Luke"s Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Gene was born October 11, 1948 in Gardner, KS to Homer A. and Georgia F. Myers. Gene grew up on a dairy farm east of Paola. He went to Beaver Creek grade school and was a 1966 graduate of Paola High school. While in high school he worked for Andy Green as a mechanic and then he worked at BEHM in Osawatomie. He served in the National Guard and in 1968 his unit was activated to active duty; he was a Vietnam veteran. He married his high school sweetheart Linda Quincy on September 28, 1968. They lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado until he went to Vietnam. They had three children, Chad, Brad and Kim. Upon his return, he went to college for a short while. Gene worked for Kansas City Power Light as a welder for 32 years, retiring in 2003 from LaCygne power plant. Gene"s top priority was always his family. His passion was team roping. He and his family held team roping jackpots every Friday evening for a number of years. He loved horses and mules, he had several covered wagons, buggies and carts which he used to drive them in parades. He enjoyed coon hunting, dogs, fishing, and visiting with folks. He always attended all of his children"s and grandchildren"s activities. He married Karri Noble in 1992, this marriage ended in divorce. He was a member of the American Legion, National Rifle Association and the American Legion Riders. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty Gallagher. He is survived by Linda Davidson; his children, Chad (Jill), Brad (Staci) and Kim (Kenny); grandchildren Ashley and Bailey Myers and Tyler and Garrett McKinney; great grandson Declan Bowen and his loyal dog, Tammy. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. A visitation will be held 6 " 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30. Memorials are to the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association.
