Henry Winfred Brown

August 24, 1913 — July 21, 2005

Henry Winfred Brown was born on Sunday, August 24, 1913, in Centropolis, Kansas. He was the son of John H. and Rosa Esther (Hoover) Brown. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, Henry made his home in Princeton, until he was called to Heaven on Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the age of ninety-one years. Henry attended Acorn, Agricola, and Mt. Hope rural schools. He was a lifelong farmer. He also worked various other jobs, including foreman at Sanders Ranch in Lane, Kansas, from the late 1960's until the mid 1970's. Mr. Brown was a long time member of Ruhamah Baptist Church and the Old Time Fiddler's & Picker's Association. Henry did not enjoy dancing. However, even though he was 'drug around the floor' by Mildred, he was glad she was so happy. To Henry, his family was his biggest asset. He loved them all, enjoyed teasing his grandchildren, and always started the fun at family gatherings. He also enjoyed listening to western music, playing cards, and telling jokes. He went to many sales, horse pulls and loved fishin' and milkin' cows. On July 4, 1936, Henry was united in marriage with Mildred A. Mathias in Garnett, Kansas. They celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage. Mildred survives of their home. He is also survived by four daughters, Edith Montgomery of Richmond, Dorothy Sobba and her husband, Claron, of Richmond, Ruby Murrow and her husband, Elton, of Ottawa, Carolyn Brown of the home; son, Eldon R. Brown and his wife, Beverly, of rural Beagle; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mildred Brown, Wilma Brown, Mabel Zalitoris; two brothers, Howard Brown, LeRoy Brown; and his uncle and aunt, Earl and Edith Brown, who helped to raise him.
