Henrietta "Hud" Stander

Henrietta “Hud” Stander, 92, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016, in Albuquerque. Family and friends will meet for a graveside service at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Hope Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. Hud was born Tuesday, July 10, 1923, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of John Ralph and Margaret (Shiras) Hudelson. A former Ottawa resident, she attended Ottawa schools, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1941. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and later attended nursing school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hud was united in marriage to Richard Wright Stander, April 9, 1943, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death in January of 2004. Survivors include her four children, Shiras Stander Shine of Laramie, Wyoming, Meredith Stander Manning and husband Chuck of Tallahassee, Florida, Peter Bradley Stander of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Alden Stander Nauman and husband Steve of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Hud was a homemaker and had formerly resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Redlands, California, Indianapolis, Indiana, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Chicago, Illinois. She made her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1979. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution in Ottawa, Kansas. She was also a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hud enjoyed traveling throughout the country, studying Native American culture, and had a passion for genealogy.
