Helen (Hendrickson) Smith passed from this world Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Wichita, KS. Helen was born March 2, 1932, in Bucyrus, KS, to Lester and Bernice (Noyes) Hendrickson. She graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner, Kansas in 1949. She went to work almost immediately for, and retired from, Panhandle Eastern Pipeline as a switchboard operator. Helen had oil & gas in her veins and knew every mile of the pipeline. Helen married Donnie Smith December 31, 1980. They made their home outside of Homewood, KS, moving for a few years to Olathe and Meade then settling in Wichita. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glenn Hendrickson. She is survived by her husband Donnie, five step-children, Donna Farris, Terry Smith (Tracy), Linda Riley (Ron), Julie Martin (Dennis), and Susie Warren, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one sister Lois Edwards (Ray), and numerous nieces, nephews and greats that she loved dearly. Helen will be remembered with a memorial service on Friday, February 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas Heart Association or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
